How heavy should my tripod be?
Always make sure that the tripod you want to buy can support at least 1.5 times more than the total weight of your camera and your heaviest lens. I say “at least” because I prefer to keep it at around 2x more.
How important is tripod height?
If the tripod has a center post that allows repositioning of the camera higher, this height may allow you to shoot from eye level. Buying a tripod that’s taller than you’ll normally use can help you capture sharper images. My latest tripod is 69 inches high at full height. My eyes are 66 inches from the ground.
Is a 60 inch tripod tall enough?
A tripod should always be able to bring the camera to the photographer’s eye level. That would be about as high as you could normally get to take a photograph. A 60″ tripod should easily do that. The height won’t make up for the wrong focal length at a given distance.
What is the tallest tripod available?

How can I make my tripod shorter?
The easiest way would be just to cut the smallest tube. This would give best stability (this part of the leg should always be extracted last if not needed fully extracted anyway). More nice would be to remove the clamps and shorten all sections to get a shorter tripod altogether, but this would require a bit more work.
Do tripods fit all cameras?
Almost all modern tripods have a 1/4 inch thread on which you would mount a camera. Almost all consumer and prosumer cameras also have a 1/4 inch female thread, which technically means that all cameras can be mounted on all tripods.
